Incat Crowther has delivered a 24m-catamaran ferry to Captain Cook Cruises in Sydney, Australia.

Built by Richardson Devine Marine, Violet McKenzie is the fourth ferry Incat Crowther has designed for the company and will join Elizabeth Cook, Mary Reibey and Anabelle Rankin in Sydney Harbour. All four vessels operate in both the low-wash and shallow-water zones on the Parramatta River and across Sydney Heads to Manly.

Violet McKenzie, which has been named as a tribute to Australia's first female electrical engineer Florence Violet McKenzie, is certified to carry 127 passengers in 1C coastal operation and 198 passengers in 1D/1E harbour operation. She is also the first Sydney Harbour ferry to be compliant with Australian Maritime Safety Authority Fast Craft II regulations.

Powered by a pair of Scania DI13 070M main engines, the ferry can cruise at a speed of 25 knots and has a maximum speed of 27 knots.

The vessel also features large hinged engine hatches to ensure engineers can easily access the engine room to carry out daily maintenance tasks, while the wheelhouse has been optimised for visibility over the boarding areas.
