Incat Crowther is to design two 400-passenger ferries for San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA).

To be built by Kvichak Marine Industries, the 41m catamarans will feature snack bar, utility space, ticket counters on each passenger deck, three toilets and a large bicycle storage area in the aft of the vessel. Large midship boarding doors and aft gates, and an extra-wide internal staircase, will help to improve passenger flow and facilitate quick boarding and disembarkation.

Both vessels will also have an isolated cabin that will be built under subcontract by Nichols Brothers Boat Builders. The cabin will offer a combination of forward-facing and booth seats, some with and some without tables, as well as an elevated wheelhouse.

Powered by two MTU 12V4000 main engines, the ferries will sail at a top service speed of 27 knots, while their advanced hull structures and the selective catalytic reduction technology will enable them to exceed strict wake wash requirements.

Incat Crowther previously collaborated with Kvichak Marine Industries and Nichol Brothers Boat Builders in 2007 to build four environmentally friendly ferries for WETA – Gemini, Taurus, Scorpio and Pisces.
