Australian shipbuilder, Incat Tasmania, has delivered a second 112-metre catamaran to the Danish high-speed ferry operator, Mols Linien, which provides services between Eastern and Western Denmark.
“I am delighted that Mols Linien has chosen to operate a fleet that is entirely comprised of Incat-built vessels, including two of our 112-metre flagships customised for the European market,” said Incat chairman Robert Clifford.
KatExpress 2 is currently travelling on a 12,500-nautical mile delivery voyage from Hobart in Tasmania, via the Panama Canal to Aarhus, Denmark and will enter service on the Aarhus-Odden route in May 2013. The ferry will offer eight crossings each day, alongside her sister ship KatExpress 1, which was delivered by Incat in May 2012. Max Mols, which has been in operation since 1998, will be transferred to the Ebeltoft to Odden route, and will offer four to eight daily sailingsper day.
The 1000-passenger vessel can accommodate 415 cars and features a business class area, a bistro restaurant, a Baresso café bar outlet, two cinemas, a play area, a protected promenade deck and an outdoor aft deck. Its main vehicle deck has hydraulically operated stern gates, while the upper car deck is accessed by either a two-lane ramp on the main deck, or innovative dual-tier shore ramps installed in Odden port, which are designed to reduce embarkation and disembarkation times. In addition, KatExpress 2’s slender hull lines, wide beam and lack of drag-inducing underwater appendages, increase its efficiency, reducing its fuel and operating costs.
“I am very pleased to have taken delivery of our second 112-metre, KatExpress 2, which offers a fantastic onboard experience tailored to our client base,” said Soren Jespersen, CEO of Mols Linien. “It continues our business transformation, expands our route capacity by 65 per cent and it will ensure good full year profitability for Mols Linien in 2013.”
