Royal Caribbean International’s Independence of the Seas is scheduled to undergo a two-week, US$7 million revitalisation project in April 2013.

Following its refurbishment, the 3,634-passenger vessel will have many of the innovative features found on the Oasis-class ships including a nursery, an outdoor cinema screen and a digital navigation system for passengers. It will also have improved dining venues such as the Italian restaurant, Giovanni’s Table and The Cupcake Cupboard, where guests can enjoy gourmet cupcakes and decorating classes.

The refit is part of Royal Caribbean International’s US$300 million renovation project, during which the popular features and venues found onboard the Oasis-class ships will be added to the remainder of the line’s fleet. The extensive revitalisation programme began in May 2011 with Radiance of the Seas and continued in 2012 with Rhapsody of the Seas, Mariner of the Seas, Grandeur of the Seas, Serenade of the Seas and Enchantment of the Seas.

Independence of the Seas will return to its Southampton base on 2 May 2013 and embark on its summer cruise season, offering new itineraries, such as a two-night cruise to Paris via Le Havre. It will also offer eight-night cruises to Norway, 14-night cruises to Norway and Cork, 12-night Canary Islands cruises and 14-night Mediterranean cruises, as well as introducing a new call at Ibiza in its 14-night Spanish Mediterranean cruise.
