As of January 2012, the Stratos and Ship Equip brands will cease to operate under their own brands and will instead trade under the name of parent company, global satellite network operator Inmarsat.

Sales and marketing for these companies and for the group as a whole will now be aligned into four new business units, one of which will be Inmarsat Maritime.

Current Stratos CEO Jim Parm will become president of Inmarsat Solutions, which is to be established as the sales, marketing and delivery arm of the Inmarsat group. Frank Coles, previously CEO of Globe Wireless before joining Inmarsat’s Global Xpress team earlier this year, will take on the role of president of Inmarsat Maritime.

Inmarsat has stated that the changes are not intended to move Inmarsat to a fully direct sales channel, but that it expects to continue maintaining a predominantly indirect business, operating via independent channel partners.
