Royal Caribbean International’s Jewel of the Seas is to undergo a US$30 million makeover before starting her summer 2016 Mediterranean season next April.

The Radiance-class vessel will be fitted with a poolside movie screen, a new two-bedroom family suite and 24 additional outside and balcony staterooms, as well as three restaurants including Giovanni’s Table, Vintages and Izumi. Chops Grille, the spa and retail area will also be refreshed, while technology will be upgraded throughout the ship. Guests will also have access to Royal Caribbean’s new high-speed VOOM internet.

“When the rejuvenated Jewel of the Seas arrives in Rome in April 2016, she will boast a perfect blend of design, amenities, services and technology that modern world travellers expect, while immersing them in some of the most sought-after-cities in the Mediterranean,” said Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International. “These adventures will appeal to both our loyal, seasoned guests and young, experience-seekers that we are speaking to with our new ‘Come Seek’ campaign.”

Between May and October 2016, Jewel of the Seas will sail seven-, eight- and nine-day roundtrips from Rome, Italy. She will visit popular ports of call such as Athens, Mykonos and Santorini in Greece, as well as Ephesus, Turkey.
