Norwegian Cruise Line has christened its newest cruise ship Norwegian Encore at a ceremony in Miami, Florida.
Godmother and singer Kelly Clarkson broke the champagne bottle across the ship’s hull before a live performance featuring several of her hits.
Over 3,500 guests attended the ceremony, which also featured a selection of the cruise line’s onboard entertainment that included performances of shows ‘Choir of Man’ and ‘Kinky Boots’.
“Norwegian Cruise Line has been sailing from Miami for over 50 years,” said Frank Del Rio, president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings. “We were the first to offer weekly cruises to the Caribbean from Miami, which shaped the city’s reputation as the ‘Cruise Capital of the World.’ We are proud to christen Norwegian Encore, the final ship of this class and a true representation of the evolution of the brand, right here in our hometown of Miami.”
At 1,100 feet long, Norwegian Encore has capacity for nearly 4,000 guests. She features a new Italian restaurant, Onda by Scarpetta, and will be the first ship in Norwegian Cruise Line’s fleet to be free of plastic bottles.
Norwegian Encore is now offering seven-day voyages to the Eastern Caribbean from Miami, before sailing to the Western Caribbean from 12 December 2020.
