Elevator and escalator manufacturer Kone is to supply 39 elevators and escalators for MSC Cruises’ new Vista-class ship MSC Meraviglia.

In total, Kone will equip MSC Meraviglia with an E-Link monitoring system, 17 MiniSpace passenger elevators, two MiniSpace scenic elevators, 13 MonoSpace service elevators, four escalators, two Motala 2000 platforms for people with restricted mobility and a dumbwaiter.

“Kone is proud to be associated with the development of this new-generation and environmentally friendly cruise vessel and to continue our partnership with STX France,” said Ari Winter, head of Marine Business at Kone.

Currently under construction at the STX France yard in Saint-Nazaire, the 167,000gt MSC Meraviglia will be 315m long and 43m wide, and is due for completion in 2017.

MSC Meraviglia will be able to accommodate up to 4,500 passengers at double occupancy and will feature interlinked ‘cluster cabins’ to allow up to three cabins to be opened up to accommodate larger family groups. The ship will also feature an extended MSC Yacht Club area, which will feature the line’s first duplex suites and an exclusive solarium, lounge and fine-dining restaurant.

Entertainment options will include a large outdoor waterpark connected to a double-deck indoor amusement park; a double-deck aft lounge and entertainment space; and a two-deck interior promenade with shops, bars and speciality dining venues. Designed to reflect a Mediterranean village, the promenade will be covered by a 480sqm LED dome ceiling, which will be the backdrop for images and visual shows at scheduled times.
