American Cruise Lines has launched its newest paddlewheeler America three weeks ahead of schedule.

Built at Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Maryland, US, the newbuild was launched on the Wicomico River and was moved to the shipyard’s East Outfitting Basin where the upper decks and the outfitting will be completed.

America, which will be able to accommodate 185 passengers, the newbuild will sail under the American flag and will be staffed by an American crew. Due to begin sailing on the Mississippi River and its tributaries next spring, America is the line’s eight newbuild and the third riverboat to be built for the Mississippi.
