Nova Star Cruises is to launch a regional Guest Chef Program onboard its latest newbuild Nova Star, which sail between the US port of Portland, Maine, and the Canadian port of Yarmouth in Nova Scotia.

As part of the programme, chefs will provide cooking demonstrations and make special regional dishes using locally sourced ingredients. In addition, sommeliers representing vineyards from both Maine and Nova Scotia will be on hand to suggest wines to accompany the dishes.

“The Guest Chef Program is one of a number of new special activities Nova Star Cruises is planning to offer onboard to enrich passengers’ experiences,” said Lisa Arnold, vice president of brand marketing and product development, Nova Star Cruises. “Being able to get a little taste of the region before actually exploring it will make it even more exciting and enjoyable.”

Jason Lynch, head chef of Domaine de Grand Pré Winery’s Le Caveau Restaurant, sailed onboard Nova Star during her day and night voyages on 18 and 19 July and will return to the vessel on 8 and 9 August.

Jonathan Joseph, chef and owner of Ye Olde Argyler Lodge, an oceanfront bed and breakfast property located in Lower Argyle, will be the guest chef on both the day and evening passages on 22 and 23 August, and 19 and 20 September. Joseph, who has worked in the culinary and hospitality industry for more than 20 years, was one of the organisers of the renowned South Beach Food and Wine Festival.

Both Lynch and Joseph will join Nova Star’s onboard executive chef, Rene Aflenzer, who most recently served as executive chef for both A-ROSA River Cruises in Germany and at Hotel Shwe Pyi Thar in Mandalay, Myanmar.
