L-S-B Broadcast Technologies is to provide the broadcasting technology onboard Royal Caribbean International’s Quantum of the Seas, which will launch in November 2014.
Currently under construction at the Meyer Werft yard, Quantum of the Seas will feature L-S-B’s Virtual Studio Manager (VSM) technology, which has been designed to control the ship’s various components of the onboard broadcasting system. These include the Riedel MediorNet signal routing system, as well as the hardware, video router, multiviewers and signal processing equipment by Evertz, and the AJA KiPro Rack recorders.
VSM will also control the 22 HD cameras located throughout the ship, which will record performances in the Royal Theater, the music hall and Two70°, and transmit them to onstage projectors and screens. The programmes will also be transmitted to one of the 36 IPTV channels onboard the ship.
By using VSM, the entertainment production team will be able to work on two different productions simultaneously.
In June, Royal Caribbean released details of its entertainment line-up for Two70°, which includes ‘Starwater’ and ‘Virtual Concert’. Created by Royal Caribbean’s Moment Factory, ‘Starwater’ features video mapping, special effects and human artistry, while ‘Virtual Concert’ includes musicians, groups and bands that will be projected across the Vistarama and all six Roboscreens.
Quantum of the Seas and her sister ship Anthem of the Seas – which will debut in Southampton, UK, in April 2015 – will introduce a new set of first-at-sea onboard experiences. These include the Ripcord by iFLY skydiving experience; North Star, a glass capsule that transports guests more than 300 ft above the ship; SeaPlex, the largest indoor sports and entertainment complex at sea with bumper cars, roller skating and more; and the cruise line's largest and most advanced staterooms to date.
Guests also will enjoy the new Quantum-class Dynamic Dining, which offers 18 restaurant concepts including specialty restaurants created with partner-chefs Jamie Oliver, Devin Alexander and Michael Schwartz.
