Port of Málaga in Spain is set to receive around 450,000 passengers and 250 cruise calls in 2016, a 7% rise from 2015.

The port, which developed new port taxes offering up to 40% discount in 2015, will also welcome more cruise calls during the low seasons (winter and summer) and serve as a homeport for 26 Thomson Cruises departures.

To boost its position as a homeport and attract more low-season callers, Port of Málaga will continue to spearhead marketing campaigns this year. It will create new promotional material, attending international events such as Seatrade Med in September, organise local events with tour operators and shipping agents, and arrange commercial visits with some of the major US, UK and German cruise operators. The port also aims to carry out market analysis studies and forge partnerships with other ports and destinations.
