The 46th MedCruise General Assembly kicked off at the Port of Zadar in Croatia on 3 June.
Opening the event, the port’s general manager Emil Bilic welcomed around 115 delegates, eight cruise line executives and five members of the international press.
During the event, which will end on 6 June, MedCruise member representatives and guests will focus on two key themes. These include environmental issues and how to improve cooperation with cruise lines and city authorities.
While Thanos Pallis, secretary-general of MedCruise, highlighted that ‘2013 was a record year for the Mediterranean with more than 27 million passengers cruising in the region’, he also indicated that the region experienced a dip in cruise traffic in 2014. Many of the discussions will therefore centre on developing initiatives to promote the cruise industry.
“We have overcome flat times this week and now is the time to make a step forward with our promotion efforts and raise our voice in the regional, European and international forum,” said MedCruise president Carla Salvadό.
Other sessions will explore the latest developments in the cruise sector and the Mediterranean region.
