Construction on NYK Cruises’ new ship, Asuka III, is progressing in Papenburg, Germany, after the German shipbuilder Meyer Werft moved the ship from a building to an outfitting dock.

The 744-passenger ship was moved from building dock I (Hall 5) on 18 January and is now moored at a fitting-out pier in the shipyard harbour. During the manoeuvre, the ship also received its funnel.

The LNG-powered ship is expected to be delivered by Meyer Werft to the Japanese company later this year. The 52,200gt ship was originally ordered in 2021 and construction began in October 2023. Once it enters service, Auska III will homeport in Yokohama, Japan.
