Mike Corrigan is to step down as president and CEO of Canadian operator BC Ferries on 31 March 2017.

Corrigan has worked at BC Ferries for 13 years and has been president and CEO for almost five years. During this time, he has helped the company to develop a ‘strong culture’ of safety and performance, generate record revenues and passenger traffic levels, and embark on a fleet upgrade and replacement initiative.

“I want to thank the board, the executive management committee, and the employees at BC Ferries for the support they have shown me, and for their ongoing dedication to delivering the highest quality service to coastal British Columbia,” said Corrigan. “I also want to thank BC residents, and our visitors from outside our province, for the trust they’ve placed in BC Ferries to safely deliver them to the people and places that are important in their lives.”

Corrigan added: “I’m stepping down with mixed emotions, because my time at BC Ferries has been tremendously rewarding and satisfying, and I’ve had the opportunity to work with an outstanding group of people – and a very supportive board. But I am at a stage in my career that I feel it is time to pursue new opportunities.”

The board has already started to consider both internal and external candidates to replace Corrigan, who will continue to serve in his role until next March.

“We want to thank Mike Corrigan for his ongoing dedication and determination to ensure BC Ferries delivers the safest and best service possible to BC residents and visitors,” said Donald Hayes, chair of BC Ferries’ board. “Mike has been with BC Ferries for the past 13 years and has had a distinguished career throughout that time. Mike is leaving the company in a very good place and has done an outstanding job as our president and CEO for the past almost five years.”
