Mindelo Cruise Port in São Vicente, Cabo Verde, has joined the network of cruise ports operated by Global Ports Holding (GPH). It becomes the second port in Africa, after La Goulette Cruise Port in Tunisia, to be managed by the cruise port operator.

The focus of the partnership between GPH and ENAPOR (National Company for Port Administration in Cabo Verde) will be to develop the terminal, with GPH offering consultancy expertise to ensure the terminal operates in line with global best practices. The initial phase of the partnership will see GPH support operations at the port, under an agreement spanning approximately three and a half years, with the option to extend for an additional two years. The partners will also focus on developing the port’s Cruise Destination Development Program, which will promote Cabo Verde’s appeal through marketing campaigns, stakeholder training and sustainable tourism practices aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals.

“We are delighted to collaborate with the ENAPOR on this transformative project,” said Mehmet Kutman, chairman and CEO of GPH. “Our expertise in cruise terminal operations and sustainable development aligns perfectly with Cabo Verde’s vision to elevate its standing in the global cruise industry. Together, we aim to create a world-class destination that celebrates the unique charm and vibrancy of São Vicente and Santo Antão.”

It is hoped the terminal’s location off the northwest coast of Africa, and its position as the gateway to the twin island destination of São Vicente and Santo Antão, will strengthen regional connectivity with GPH’s ports in the Canary Islands. The partnership is expected to boost passenger traffic and promote economic growth and tourism opportunities.

“This collaboration marks a significant step forward in supporting the development, management, and operational success of the Mindelo Cruise Port,” said Ireneu Camacho, chairman and CEO of Ports of Cabo Verde. “We are confident that this partnership will bring mutual benefits, enhancing the infrastructure and services of one of the most important maritime gateways in Cabo Verde, while contributing to the continued growth and prosperity of our country, mainly at the cruise sector. We look forward to working closely with GPH to achieve new milestones and elevate the Mindelo Cruise Port to new heights of excellence.”
