Global classification society Rina is to provide its software suite to help Italian cruise ferry operator Moby to manage maintenance and purchase processes across its 13-ship fleet.

Developed in cooperation with IB Software and Consulting, the Rina InfoSHIP Maintenance and Purchase Module (MP) helps to reduce the cost of managing planned and unplanned maintenance, stocking and inventory.

Using the software, Moby will be able to build a model of the ship’s technical structure and create an onboard database to help manage maintenance activities and for managing the supply chain of spare parts, consumables, services and material management.

“Moby operates a modern fleet of high capacity and high-speed cruise ferries on demanding trades,” said Paolo Moretti, general manager of marine at RINA Services. “Choosing this software will deliver cost and operational efficiency benefits and minimise downtime. The choice confirms our strong partnership with Moby and RINA’s ability to assist owners and operators with operational services.”

The ferry operator has already implemented the InfoSHIP Quality and Safety Management solution to help track hazardous incidents – such as accidents or near-misses – and improve onboard safety procedures and standards. The solution also helps Moby to monitor safety equipment and manage quality and compliance documents to support International Safety Management requirements.

Moby operates five high-speed cruise ferries that can accommodate more than 2,000 passengers, two 1,600-guest cruise ferries and six mid-size ferries on routes linking the Italian mainland with Sardinia, Corsica and Elba.
