MSC Cruises christened its new cruise ship, MSC Grandiosa, at an official ceremony in the Port of Hamburg, Germany on 9 November 2019.

A light show illuminated MSC Grandiosa as she passed the Elbphilharmonie concert hall and, following a celebratory firework display, the ship was then officially named by godmother and actress Sophia Loren. MSC Grandiosa is the 15th vessel she has christened.

The official ceremony concluded four nights of celebrations at the port, which featured a number of celebrity hosts and performers. On the night of the christening, guests onboard the ship were able to enjoy a four-course gala dinner with a menu by German chef Harald Wohlfart, followed by music from DJ Mousse T. and singer Emma Lanford.

MSC Grandiosa will depart Hamburg on a voyage that will include calls at Southampton, England and Barcelona, Spain. The vessel will then begin sailing regular seven-night cruises in the Western Mediterranean from Genoa, Italy.
