MSC Cruises has partnered with award-winning chef, restaurateur, author and TV personality Roy Yamaguchi to create a new pan-Asian speciality restaurant on MSC Seaside.

The Japanese-American chef, who created Hawaiian fusion cuisine and founded 30 Roy’s Restaurants, will initially work with MSC to create a pan-Asian restaurant on MSC Seaside, which is due to launch in December 2017 and sail year-round from Miami to the Caribbean. Yamaguchi will be involved in developing the recipes and menus, selecting chinaware and restaurant music, choosing the wine pairings, and even the paper for the menus.

“We are developing exciting new dining options onboard MSC Seaside, with nine eateries featuring cuisines from all around the world including a pan-Asian restaurant in partnership with Roy Yamaguchi, a luxury fish restaurant with chef’s table and a world class international steak house where the beef will be dry-aged onboard,” said Gianni Onorato, MSC Cruises CEO.

MSC already works in partnership with three other critically acclaimed chefs, including two-star Michelin chef Carlo Cracco who designs the line’s Christmas and New Year menus and has also created an exclusive Gala Menu recipe and a new cooking experience for the DOREMI children’s clubs. Both of the new offerings will be available from summer 2016.

Meanwhile, award-winning French chocolatier and pastry chef Jean Phillipe-Maury is to create new desserts for the buffets, speciality restaurants and the MSC Yacht Clubs across MSC’s fleet. He will also work with MSC to create a chocolate atelier with an open kitchen, speciality pastry and bakery menus, and a gourmet ice cream parlour and crèperie for the four new Meraviglia ships. The newbuilds are due or delivery in mid-2017, early 2019, October 2019 and September 2020.

Jereme Leung is to bring his contemporary Chinese cuisine to MSC Lirica, the first MSC ship to deployed out of China in May 2016. He will design innovative dining concepts tailored to the preferences of Chinese guests, as well as an exclusive range of signature dishes.

“Our heritage lies in the Mediterranean, where a passion for food is a way of life and we aim to bring this alive every day for our guests with fresh, authentic food of the highest quality,” said Onorato. “The dining experience on an MSC Cruises ship is distinguished by the extensive variety of Mediterranean and international cuisines and wide range of dining formats available. The four top chefs whom we currently work with were selected as leading global experts in their respective cuisines and each one brings world-class fine dining expertise, elevating the dining experience for our guests to a new level.”
