MSC Cruises’ executive chairman Pierfrancesco Vago has been reappointed as the chairman of Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Europe for another year.
First appointed to lead CLIA Europe in November 2013, Vago has recently completed his two-year term as chairman and was reappointed by the board for an additional 12 months according to CLIA Europe’s bylaws.
“Pierfrancesco has been instrumental to CLIA Europe’s success over the last two years,” said Raphael von Heereman, secretary general of CLIA Europe. “Thanks to his restless support, Europe’s cruise industry leaders are now more dedicated to the association’s day-to-day work than ever before. He has helped us to greatly expand our effectiveness in Brussels and other European capitals, in terms of government affairs, communication and business development. I am confident that, with Mr Vago staying at the helm, the coming year will be one of success to CLIA Europe and Europe’s cruise industry.”
Vago said: “The last two years have been of profound change for CLIA Europe as we have moved away from the former European Cruise Council to embrace CLIA’s globally integrated structure. I remain fully committed to matching my peers’ trust with my outmost dedication during the upcoming year.”
CLIA’s board has also voted to make Kyriakos Anastassiadis, CEO of Celestyal Cruises, a permanent member of CLIA Europe’s Executive Committee. In this position, Anastassiadis will represent the views and interests of the smaller CLIA Europe Cruise Line Members.
Other members of the Executive Committee include David Dingle, chairman of Carnival UK and CLIA Europe vice chairman; Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio, chairman of Silversea Cruises; Michael Thamm, CEO of the Costa Group; and Dominic Paul, vice president international of Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Club Cruises and managing director of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.
