The UK’s National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) is to appear on Cunard Line’s Queen Mary 2 during the vessel’s transatlantic crossing from Southampton to New York between 8-15 September 2014.
The NSO’s fifth onboard performance will be conducted by Grammy-nominated Anthony Inglis, who is looking forward to the experience following the orchestra’s September 2013 appearance on the cruise line’s flagship.
“Each time we travel on Queen Mary 2 we raise the roof in the Royal Court Theatre,” Inglis said. “The orchestra and I are still on a high from last month’s sailing. We are counting down the months to September 2014 and our fifth appearance on board Queen Mary 2, the greatest ship in the world, in her tenth anniversary year.”
Inglis has appeared more times at London’s Royal Albert Hall than any other conductor and has also played a key role in the naming ceremonies of each vessel in Cunard’s three-ship fleet.
More than 150 passengers also volunteered to take part in two choirs under Inglis’ direction during the most recent crossing, rehearsing regularly and taking part in two onboard concerts with the NSO.
Passengers' comment forms gave a thumbs up to the ‘Last Night of the Cunard Proms’ concerts with an approval rating of 99.6.
