Genting Hong Kong has confirmed that its new Germany-based shipyard group, MV Werften, will build four river cruise ships, three exploration mega yachts and two ocean cruise ships between 2017 and 2021.
In 2017-2018, MV Werften will deliver four Rhine Class river cruise vessels for Crystal River Cruises, which will be followed by three 20,000gt Endeavor class exploration yachts for Crystal Yacht Expedition Cruises between 2019 and 2021. The yard will also build two 201,000gt Global Class ocean cruise ships for its Asia-based brand Star Cruises, which will be delivered in 2020 and 2021.
Following the delivery of these nine vessels in 2021, MV Werften will accelerate its production schedule so it can deliver two Global Class and two Endeavor Class ships per year.
“This is excellent confirmation of the ship deliveries by Genting as MV Werften is moving rapidly in basic and detailed design of the Endeavor Class and Global Class ships,” said Jarmo Laakso, managing director of MV Werften. “Meanwhile the entire hull of the first two river ships are already completed due for delivery in 2017 and we will be cutting steel for the third and fourth river ships in January of next year for delivery in 2018.”
MV Werften was formed in July 2016 after Genting Hong Kong completed a €230.6 million acquisition of Nordic Yards’ three shipyards in Wismar, Warnemunde and Stralsund, Germany. The facility has covered docks, fabrication halls and painting shops, but will be upgraded in the near future to include a thin plate laser welding line, a cabin module factory, a new covered section block building hall, and modernised manufacturing control systems.
