Spanish shipbuilding company Navantia and cruise company Royal Caribbean Group have signed a framework agreement for future ship modernisation and revitalisation projects.

The agreement extends the existing partnership between the companies, which began in 2012 when Navantia refurbished two Royal Caribbean vessels in Cadiz, Spain. The shipbuilder has since completed revitalisation projects on 45 of the cruise operator’s vessels and is currently carrying out a major renovation on Royal Caribbean International’s Allure of the Seas in Cadiz.

“We are absolutely delighted to renew our frame agreement with Royal Caribbean and look forward to strengthening the already excellent relationship between our companies through safe and successful dockings of their fleet,” said Marcos Díaz, general director of ship repairs at Navantia. “We appreciate the trust bestowed upon us over the past 14 years by such a key leader of the cruise ship industry.”

Díaz signed the agreement with Anders Aasen, senior vice president of global marine technology at Royal Caribbean Group, during a ceremony at the cruise company’s headquarters in Miami, Florida.
