Bacardi Global Travel has created a new Bacardi rum experience for cruise passengers in the SMT Duty Free Flagship Pier 4 store at San Juan Cruise Port in San Juan, Mexico.
Created and installed by retail-focused design and production agency Bloommiami, the new Bacardi experience enables guests to watch demonstrations, learn about the heritage of Bacardi rum and its connection with Puerto Rico, and sample cocktails at a dedicated rum bar in the store.
Cruises guests can also purchase branded merchandise and Bacardi rums, including Bacardi Carta Blanca, which can be personalised with a custom label. Premium rums produced at the Bacardi distillery just 15 kilometres from the cruise port in the town of Cataño will also be available. The distillery is adjacent to the Casa Bacardi Visitor Center, which enables cruise guests to learn about the history of the Bacardí family and the brand, as well as its unique rum production methods.
“As home to the Bacardi rum distillery, we are committed to helping drive tourism to the island, which continues its long-term recovery after a devasting hurricane season in 2017,” said Geoff Biggs, regional director for the Americas at Bacardi Global Travel Retail. “With so much to offer, Puerto Rico is a great cruise destination and we hope guests explore the art of rum making by visiting the Casa Bacardi Visitor Center, support businesses by enjoying Bacardi cocktails at local restaurants and bars, and end their trip with a visit to the port store to pick up mementos of their island experience.”
San Juan Cruise Port welcomed 1.8 million passengers and 517 cruise ships in 2018, a 21% increase from 2017. Further growth is expected in 2019.
