David MacBrayne Ltd has contracted Worldline and Hogia to implement a new integrated ticketing and online booking system for its subsidiary ferry operators Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) and Argyll Ferries.
As part of the initial three-year contract, which may be expanded to cover any ferry services the company launches in the future, online payments specialist Worldline will collaborate with Hogia, the largest provider of IT systems for ferry operators in the European transport market.
The system will make it quicker and easier for travellers to make bookings and reservations for the CalMac and Argyll Ferries’ services, which operate on the coast of Scotland. It will also provide the necessary foundation for smart ticketing technology to be rolled out in the future.
“We have received a raft of awards in recent years in recognition of our focus on customer care, but we know we can always do more to improve the customer experience and that’s why we are currently undertaking a major programme of improvements to modernise our system,” said Martin Dorchester, managing director of CalMac.
Dorchester added: “The award of this contract is an important milestone in that journey as we recognise that our ticketing and online booking systems are starting to show their age and no longer meet the expectations of customers for whom e-ticketing and the use of mobile technology is becoming the norm.”
Both Worldline and Hogia have provided similar services to various rail and ferry operators in the UK and Europe.
