P&O Cruises has introduced new activity tours for guests sailing on Caribbean itineraries in the 2014-2015 season.

As part of the new tour programme, certified divers over the age of 15 can become a part of Bonaire’s Coral Restoration Foundation and help to conduct surveys, collect data and clean or remove predators that can damage the coral at two different sites.

Families visiting St Lucia can opt for a segway training session at Rodney Bay, followed by a two-mile nature trail on the segway to explore Mount Primard and learn about the battles between the English and French. The tour will finish at Pigeon Island, providing an opportunity for snorkelling.

P&O will also offer 30-minute helicopter flights from Port Zante in St Kitts, enabling guests to fly over the shoreline towards the rainforests and the crater of Mount Liamuiga, as well as the Brimstone Hill Fortress, Romney Manor and Nevis island.

“There’s so much more to the Caribbean than the usual clichés of palm fringed beaches, turquoise blue waters, stunning sunsets and rum cocktails,” said Christopher Edgington, P&O Cruises’ marketing director. “These islands actually offer a hotbed of activity and our new tours are perfect for those who want to ditch the sunbed and don the trainers to experience something totally different.”

Other shore excursions include quad biking in St Lucia, river tubing along the Balthazar River in the Grand Etang Rainforest Reserve in Grenada, and a 1,000ft zip line across eight platforms through Walkes Spring Plantation in Barbados. Guests can also enjoy a bike ride through Bonaire to the inland Gotomeer Salt Lake and the village of Rincon to sample local Cactus Liquer at the distillery. Those visiting Dominica can take a power boating trip to snorkel around Champagne Reef, before heading to Soufriere, Scottshead and the Atlantic Ocean.
