Knud E. Hansen has developed concept and tender designs for a 120 m ro-pax ferry to be operated out of Hainan Island in the South China Sea by CS Marine of Shanghai.

Designed to transport vehicles and containers on a single cargo deck in compliance with Chinese classification society rules and Chinese Flag regulations, the ferry will have capacity for 444 passengers and 91 crew members.

The vessel will operate in multiple modes, enabling her to offer a regular ferry service, or cruises of up to 30 days in length. She has been developed to facilitate easy boat-to-boat embarkation to ensure she can sail to islands that do not have dedicated berthing facilities.

Operating at a maximum speed of 19 knots in normal sea conditions, the ferry will feature a range of public areas. These include a cafeteria, dining area, internet café, cigar bar, library and conference rooms, a sun deck and a cinema.

CS Marine’s ferry will be built at the Bo Hai Shipyard in China, which was awarded the contract by the Local Government of Hainan Province.
