Ports of Auckland has started the installation of a new covered gangway that will service cruise ships calling at Shed 10, the New Zealand city’s primary cruise terminal on Queen’s Wharf.

The multi-million dollar gangway will automatically move up and down as the ship shifts with the tide and will enable quick passenger transfers between the ship and the cruise terminal.

“Over the next month, the gangway will be delivered to Queen’s Wharf in a number of large segments. It will then be erected onsite and commissioned over the next two months,” said Alistair Kirk, general manager of infrastructure and property at the Ports of Auckland.

The installation is part of Waterfront Auckland’s refurbishment project, which involves the revitalisation of Shed 10 to upgrade facilities and create an events venue.
