The European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) has appointed Markku Mylly as Executive Director for a five-year term.
Mylly succeeds Willem de Ruiter, who stepped down from the position several months ago. Previous positions held by Mylly include managing director of the Finnish Port Association and member of the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO).
He has also served as director general and director of the Traffic Department at the Finnish Maritime Administration. The Lisbon-headquartered EMSA exists to reduce the risk of maritime accidents, the loss of human life at sea and marine pollution from ships.
