German shipyard Meyer Werft is set to construct a 15,000 gt cruise ship for Genting Hong Kong’s Asian cruise brand Star Cruises.

The 1,680-cabin vessel will be Star Cruises’ seventh ship and is scheduled for delivery in autumn 2016, following financial approval.

“It is a great challenge to create a state of the art cruise vessel specifically for the Asian market,” said Bernard Meyer, the shipyard’s managing director. “Therefore we are very thankful that Star Cruises has chosen us to create this special cruise vessel with them.”

Around 3,100 Meyer Werft employees and 20,000 employees from European supplier companies will work on the project.
