Carnival UK has appointed three directors from outside the cruise industry as part of the company’s new commercial leadership structure in both P&O Cruises and Cunard.

Jeremy Tait will be leaving his current position as director of proposition, development and insight at Direct Line, to take on the role of insight director for both P&O Cruises and Cunard. Chris Edgington, who was previously commercial director of Coral for the Gala Coral Group, will assume the role of P&O Cruises’ marketing director, while Angus Struthers - currently senior director global communications for TripAdvisor – will take on a similar role for Cunard.

Tait is to assume his new role on 1 July, while both Edgington and Struthers are set to join Carnival UK at the end of August.

“These three key senior appointments will help us to evolve and strengthen our brands and customer experiences still further. Their proven blue chip backgrounds within marketing and communications will bring new focus, creativity and insight to our leadership team,” said Gerard Tempest, who has been chief commercial officer of Carnival UK since December 2012.

The new appointments will replace P&O Cruises managing director Carol Marlow and Cunard Line’s president and managing director Peter Shanks who will leave Carnival UK in September.

As part of the restructure, David Dingle will become the CEO of both Cunard Line and P&O Cruises.

Tempest said: “Cunard Line and P&O Cruises have shaped British cruising over the last 175 years and while we have a unique heritage to preserve, we need to ensure we develop the future of British cruising. We want strongly appealing and highly differentiated brands, without compromising their core values.”
