Resorts World Bimini has completed the first construction phase of its new port development on the island of Bimini, which is located on the border between the Gulf Stream and the Great Bahama Bank.
Bimini now features a temporary customs and immigration facility, which will enable day-trip visitors to disembark directly on the island from 18 September. This will enable guests to spend up to six hours on Bimini to enjoy the resort’s white sand beaches, casino and six restaurants and bars.
“The completion of the port at Resorts World Bimini further enhances our commitment to the island, offering guests more time in port and uninterrupted cruise service during the winter months,” said Dana Leibovitz, president of Resorts World Bimini.
In addition, the company will expand Bimini SuperFast’s cruise schedule to include weekday sailings from Port Everglades in Florida, US. Available from 14 October 2014, the roundtrip cruises will depart Port Everglades every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 9 am, arriving directly at the new port at Resorts World Bimini. The cruise ship will return to Fort Lauderdale at 9 pm that evening. In addition, Bimini SuperFast will continue to sail from Port Miami three days a week, from Friday to Sunday.
“Growing demand for cruises to Bimini among passengers hailing from Broward and Palm Beach counties has led us to add a service from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale during the week,” said Leibovitz. “This move will make our day cruises even more accessible to the South Florida market and increase the economic impact to the island of Bimini.”
Bimini will now carry out the second construction phase, which will include installing permanent customs and immigration facilities on the island. The third and final phase will include developing a new beach experience, which will include a restaurant, a beach club, a craft market and various onsite watersports.
