French ferry operator Brittany Ferries is to offer a new, economy weekend service from 25 March 2014.
Branded Brittany Ferries économie, the new service enables passengers to travel from the UK to France or Spain at a very reasonable fare without the cruise-style experience normally provided by Brittany Ferries. The line will offer a weekend service between Portsmouth and Santander in northern Spain, as well as five return crossings between Portsmouth and Le Havre, France.
“While our services to western France have been established for many years, those to Spain are currently enjoying great success, so we are seeking ways to build on this and grow the market,” said Mike Bevens, group commercial director at Brittany Ferries. “We feel that there is an opening for a no-frills, great-value service which will appeal to those who are on a tight budget and may not have even considered travelling by ferry before.”
While the service is aimed at those with a tight budget, passengers will enjoy good-quality French cuisine, while the cabins will have en-suite facilities and a lounge where seats can be reserved on overnight crossings. Pet owners benefit will benefit from 12 pet-friendly cabins and there will be two cabins equipped for disabled passengers. Entertainment will be restricted to a movie lounge.
Bevens said: “Brittany Ferries économie will not provide the same high level of service and facilities with which Brittany Ferries has become associated, but it will offer something altogether simpler and with exceptional value.”
