New strategy for Copenhagen

Three-year plan to increase passenger numbers to one million by 2015
New strategy for Copenhagen

Cruise Copenhagen Network (CCN) has established a new strategy to increase the number of cruise passengers visiting the ports to one million by 2015.

The strategy was discussed at the recent annual CCN General Assembly, which was held at the Danish capital’s Tivoli Gardens and attended by over 60 partners.

“We anticipate an average passenger growth of five to seven per cent by 2015, however, we have to focus on enhancing both the quality of the Copenhagen experience and collaboration at destination level,” said Bo Larsen, CCN director. “We aim to achieve these goals by being more assertive, combining cruise intelligence and the knowledge of our partners – particularly those in the commercial product sector, shops, hotels – with making innovative improvements.”

The CCN has formed a panel to identify and implement a three-year improvement strategy. The panel includes Janus Krarup, Arnt Møller Petersen, Nick Courtney and Henrik Bendix, who represent the Municipality of Copenhagen, CMP, BDP and Strömma, respectively. Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers’ Allan Agerholm, Brøchner Hotels’ Karim Nielsen, Christiansborg and Kronborg Castle’s Jesper Thomas Møller and VisitAalborg’s Lars Bech will also form part of the panel.

Highlighting the challenges faced by CCN, Larsen added: “We need to address the challenges rising from the current tough economic environment, our relatively short season and the legislative issues in the Baltic Sea region, as well as how to improve infrastructure and logistics for our cruise passengers – especially with the completion next year of a new pier and terminal buildings. We need to protect existing business at the same time as target new, looking at growing international source markets such as Australia.”

Attendees at the General Assembly also reviewed the organisation’s activity in 2012, idenitifying the newly-branded marketing material and the enrolment of three new CCN partners, the Designmuseum Danmark, Vedde Turistfart and the Port of Hundested as key highlights of the year.
