Finland-based naval interior team NIT has signed a turnkey contract to outfit areas onboard Costa Cruises’ two new LNG-powered cruise ships, which will be built by Meyer Turku in Finland.
NIT will design and construct ten crew staircases for each of the vessels, and also design and build the sun deck, family restaurant and children’s clubs.
“Our team has confirmed deals for two ships now and we are excited to participate in these great projects which have welcomed Costa Group, Europe’s leading cruise company, as a return customer to Finland,” said Jari Suominen, CEO of NIT. “NIT is continuing to develop new benchmarks and standards for this growing industry in collaboration with our long-time partner Meyer Turku. We will invest in steel, data and brainpower to build this success story together with the shipyard.”
Costa’s new 180,000gt ships will accommodate up to 6,600 passengers. They will be two of the first in the world to be powered by LNG fuel and designed for green cruising concept.
The first ship is scheduled for delivery in 2019, while the second is set to launch in 2021.
