Finland-based NIT has been named as a turnkey supplier for the public areas onboard Hapag-Lloyd’s two new ice-class expedition ships, Hanseatic Inspiration and Hanseatic Nature.

Both Hanseatic Nature and Hanseatic Inspiration will be constructed to Polar Ice Class 6 by Norwegian shipbuilder Vard (a subsidiary of Italy’s Fincantieri Marine Group) and will launch in April and October 2019 respectively. Each vessel will have seven passenger decks and will be able to accommodate up to 230 passengers.

The hulls will be built at Vard’s Tulcea yard in Romania, while the fitting work will be mainly carried out by Vard Accommodation at the Langsten shipyard in Norway. Here, NIT will work on the ships’ spas, restaurants, staircases, outdoor deck areas, balconies and smaller spaces.

“This is our first project in Norway,” said Jari Suominen, CEO of NIT. “We are very happy that Vard secured a deal with us in the early stages of this project. I expect that our team will contribute strongly to the design and engineering together with the architects and Hapag-Lloyd.”

NIT has provided interior areas to more than 50 large vessels, including some of the world’s biggest cruise ships.
