US port proposes multi-year berthing agreement with the cruise operator
NOLA considers Norwegian deal

The Port of New Orleans (NOLA) is to consider entering into a new multi-year berthing agreement with Norwegian Cruise Lines.

Norwegian’s current berthing contract has expired and the line is not due to return to the port until November with Norwegian Dawn, a new seasonal ship.

Robert Jumonville, the port of NOLA’s cruise director, will present the proposed terms of the new agreement to the port authority’s board on 20 August. The proposals reportedly include seasonal, year-round and larger ships.

New Orleans recently entered into an agreement with Carnival Cruise Lines, enabling the cruise operator to base two ships year-round at the port until at least 2019.

Superseding the operator’s pervious three-year homeporting contract with the port, which was signed in 2013, the new agreement became effective on 1 July 2014. It offers three one-year options that could guarantee Carnival homeports at least two ships of equal, or greater, size than the ships it currently bases at the port until 2022.
