Nordfjord Port Authority is to open a second tender pier in OldenLoen, Norway on 1 June 2018 so it can cater for more cruise ships and their guests.
The move was prompted by the success of the Loen’s first tender pier, which has been used by six vessels since it opened in 2017 and received ‘very positive’ feedback thanks to its ample parking facilities for tour buses and close proximity to the Loen Skylift attraction.
The new pier will be located at the centre of Olden village and will also have its own dedicated parking area. This will mean that cruise ships visiting OldenLoen will be able to dock at either of the tender piers, or at the dedicated cruise berth, which will improve logistics and reduce overcrowding.
OldenLoen will welcome 100 cruise ship calls and 170,000 guests in 2018. To date, 22 of these cruise ships have requested to use the tender facilities.
Nordfjord Port Authority, which is a member of Cruise Norway, also plans to extend its existing facility, secure the area behind the pier, increase parking space for buses and set up small huts for security guards alongside the quay in 2018.
