Norway permits LNG bunkering

Fjord Line can now bunker LNG ferries while passengers are on board
Norway permits LNG bunkering

Fjord Line has been granted permission by the Norwegian authorities to refuel its new liquefied natural gas (LNG) ferries while passengers are on board.

Until now, Norway has banned this activity, forcing the ferry operator to send its LNG ferries to ports in Denmark or Sweden where bunkering of LNG-fuelled ships with passengers on board is allowed.

This latest decision will enable Fjord Line to move the majority of its bunkering to Risavika Harbour in Norway, which is just a few hundred metres away from the Skangass LNG terminal where it buys its fuel from. Not only will this help the ferry operator to make substantial cost savings, but it will help to reduce any delays that Fjord Line was previously experiencing as a result of bunkering difficulties.
