Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Breakaway made her maiden call at the UK’s Portland Port on 25 April, making her the largest and heaviest cruise vessel to visit the port to date.

Norwegian Breakaway arrived carrying more than 4,000 passengers and docked at the port’s recently.

“The inaugural call of Norwegian Breakaway is very exciting for the port and would not have been possible without the berth extension that was opened in April last year,” said Ian McQuade, general manager at Portland Port. “We hope that she will be the first of many similar-sized cruise ships to visit Portland Port.”

Portland Port expects to welcome 32 cruise ships and nearly 39,000 passengers in the 2018 cruise season. Over the past decade, ship calls and passenger numbers have increased significantly from four calls and 2,000 passengers in 2009 to the record-breaking figures predicted for 2018.
