Fjord Line launched Oslofjord, a converted cruise ferry, on a new route from Sandefjord, Norway, to Strömstad, Sweden, on 20 June.

Built in 1993, the ship has undergone a €250 million upgrade to include a 1,200 sqm shopping area and improved dining venues. She will sail year-round, offering two daily roundtrips on the Sandefjord-Strömstad route.

Marit Sagen Gogstad, manager of Sandefjord Business Association, will christen the ferry on 21 June. “I was proud when I was asked to baptise Oslofjord,” she said. “It’s an honourable mission and I promise to do my best, both at the baptism and for ship and crew in the coming years.”

The christening ceremony will also feature a performance from Sandefjord Brass Symposium, as well as speeches from Gert Balling, CEO of Fjord Line, and Marit Sagen Gogstad. Attendees will be invited to enjoy a free roundtrip from Strömstad.

To celebrate her role as godmother, Marit Sagen Gogstad has pledged to donate NOK 30,000 towards the installation of a new outboard motor for the rescue boat used by Sandefjord Red Cross during the summer season.

“I hope godmother gift will contribute to increased safety for everyone travelling to, or residing near, the lake in summer,” said Marit Sagen Gogstad.
