Royal Caribbean International’s Ovation of the Seas is to offer two new large-scale theatre productions.

Seating 1,300 guests, the Royal Theater will host ‘The Dream’, which chronicles the story of a man who is visited by his departed soulmate in a dream, and ‘Live. Love. Legs’. Developed by the same team behind Quantum of the Seas’ popular ‘Sequins & Feathers’ production, the production will combine aerial acrobatics, choreography and vocal performances.

Like sister ship Anthem of the Seas, the newbuild will also feature Two70°, a three-deck, multidimensional space with floor-to-ceiling glass windows designed by US-based 5+design and located at the stern of the ship. In addition to seating, dining areas and a two-storey mixology bar, Two70°also features six Roboscreens each measuring over 7ft high and controlled by powerful robotic arms. The screens can be programmed to move in synchronisation with live performers and aerialists as they travel through the performance space, surrounding the spectators with lights, music and sound. Two70° also operates Vistarama technology – a digital filming and warping process – which combines 18 projectors to transform the floor-to-ceiling glass wall into a 100ft wide by 20ft high surface for digital projections in 12K resolution.

The venue will host ‘Spectra’s Cabaret’, an electronic multimedia show with live performances, experiential cinema and music from contemporary pop culture, which was created by Royal Caribbean and Moment Factory.

Guests will also be able to enjoy live music and themed parties in the Music Hall, late-night Roboshows and themed parties in Two70.

Meanwhile, younger guests will be able to participate in events and activities featuring DreamWorks Animation's popular film characters. These will include character breakfasts in the main dining room, impromptu ‘meet-and-greet’ experiences and photo opportunities. They will also be able to watch the latest DreamWorks Animation films in the ship’s movie theatre or on the dedicated DreamWorks TV channel in their stateroom.

To be launched this April, the 167,800gt Ovation of the Seas will have 16 guest decks and be able to accommodate 4,180 passengers at double occupancy. The vessel will also feature the cruise line’s largest staterooms, including cabins with Virtual Balconies to offer guests in interior staterooms real-time views of the ocean.

Ovation of the Seas will offer a series of ‘first-at-sea’ onboard experiences including the new Bionic Bar where guests can place orders via tablets and then watch robotic arms mix their drinks; the Ripcord by iFly skydiving experience; SeaPlex, the largest indoor active space at sea; Two70°, which spans three decks at the stern of the ship; and North Star, a glass pod that extends more than 300 ft above the ship. Guests can also enjoy the Dynamic Dining concept, which comprises 18 restaurant concepts and speciality restaurants created with partner chefs Jamie Oliver, Devin Alexander and Michael Schwartz.

Royal Caribbean’s newest vessel will launch in April with a 52-day ‘Global Odyssey’, which departs Southampton, England for Tianjin, China. The ship will then homeport in Tianjin from 24 June, joining Quantum of the Seas, Mariner of the Seas, Voyager of the Seas and Legend of the Seas to make up the largest fleet of any cruise line sailing in China.
