American Cruise Lines has revealed that the construction of its new paddlewheeler is six weeks ahead of schedule at the Chesapeake Shipbuilding yard in Maryland, US.

Due to enter service in March 2015, American Eagle has now entered the final outfitting stages and has already been fitted with electrics and sliding glass doors on the balconies. In addition, the interior is ‘well underway’, while the exterior painting is ‘just about complete’. Over the coming weeks, the paddlewheel, woodwork trim, other architectural details, carpets and furniture will be installed.

Designed to reflect the elegance of the classic riverboats from the late 1800s, American Eagle will accommodate 150 guests in 84 staterooms, 78 of which include large private balconies with sliding glass doors.

American Eagle will primarily sail on the Lower Mississippi River between New Orleans and Memphis, offering a number of itineraries, including a 22-day Complete Mississippi Cruise.
