Princess Cruises’ Australia-based Dawn Princess is to be renamed Pacific Explorer when she joins P&O Cruises Australia’s fleet in May 2017.

Able to accommodate 2,000 guests, the 77,000gt ship will be the largest to sail under the P&O Cruises’ flag and will undergo a refurbishment before joining the fleet. The 2,000-guest ship will feature a similar interior design to the line’s newest ships – Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden – which are currently being refitted at Sembcorp Marine Admiralty Yard in Singapore.

Dining venues will include Angelo’s Italian, Dragon Lady and Waterfront restaurant, and The Pantry, which replaces the traditional buffet and features eight all-inclusive dining venues offering a range of international cuisine. The ship will also offer more than 400 balcony rooms, resort-style pool areas and various new entertainment concepts and spaces.

“Just as we’re preparing to welcome Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden next month, we’re thrilled to have another ship on the horizon that will continue the exciting evolution of our modern Australian cruise product,” said Sture Myrmell, P&O Cruises’ senior vice president. “We have grand plans for Pacific Explorer and we think her new features are going to cause a lot of excitement in the local industry.”

Pacific Explorer will sail from Sydney during her inaugural season. More itinerary details will be revealed soon.
