St Lucia is to welcome it first-ever homeporting cruise ship when P&O Cruises’ newest ship Britannia sails from the Caribbean island between November 2016 and March 2017.
On sale from 15 October, the sailings are part of P&O Cruises’ extended Caribbean fly-cruise programme, which combines the St Lucia cruises with flights to and from St Lucia or Barbados.
On 21 October, Britannia will depart the UK port of Southampton for a 22-day transatlantic repositioning cruise to St Lucia, before sailing the first of her seven-night and 14-night voyages from the new Caribbean cruise port on 12 November. Following 28 seven- and 14-night voyages from St Lucia, the ship will then depart the Caribbean on 4 March 2017 and return to Southampton.
Guests will be able to visit various Caribbean destinations including Antigua, Aruba, Barbados, Bonaire, Curacao, Dominica, St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Maarten, St Kitts, St Thomas, San Juan in Puerto Rico, and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.
“Introducing new itineraries that all depart or return St Lucia will offer a new dimension to our Caribbean cruises,” said Christopher Edgington, P&O Cruises’ marketing director. “St Lucia is a popular destination with passengers and no other cruise line has it as a homeport, so we are looking to make the most of this by offering an exciting range of shore excursions to maximise the time there.”
This is the first time that P&O Cruises has offered seven-night Caribbean cruises.
“These new weeklong itineraries will appeal to those wishing to escape the cold weather and see a number of destinations but who don’t have the time for a longer cruise,” said Edgington. “For passengers with more leisure time, our 14-night cruises provide the perfect opportunity to see more than seven islands in one holiday.”
