Passenger moves at Port Everglades surpassed four million in 2014, with multi-day moves reaching a record 3.88 million and daily moves hitting 121,321.

The South Florida port, which previously recorded 4,075,406 passenger moves in 2004, attributes the increase to more ships visiting during the summer season and cruise operators offering more four- and five-night itineraries.

“Port Everglades celebrated a record financial year with US$153 million in revenue and four million passenger moves,” said Steven Cernak, Port Everglades’ chief executive and port director. “These are terrific milestones. The key now is to continue moving forward with our infrastructure plans since we know that ships are only getting larger and facility needs are greater.”

Currently, eight cruise lines, one ferry and more than 40 cruise ships sail from Port Everglades, including Balearia’s Bahamas Express, Carnival Cruise Lines, Celebrity Cruises, Cunard Line, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean International, Seabourn Cruises and Silversea Cruises.

By 2033, the port expects to handle 5.6 million cruise passenger moves per year.
