The Port of Barcelona has selected Royal Caribbean Group and Cruise Terminals International to construct and operate a new cruise terminal at the port.
The companies’ joint bid, known as Catalonia Cruise Terminal G, was the only one presented and was rated as ‘excellent’ by the technical staff in charge of the tender due to its commitment to energy and environmental sustainability.
Terminal G on the Adossat wharf has been designed to handle home port traffic and improve passenger mobility. It will be equipped to supply shore power to visiting cruise ships and incorporate renewable energy solutions such as solar panels, which will ensure the terminal is a zero-emissions building.
The new facility will be the seventh and final terminal to be constructed at the Adossat wharf, as per an agreement reached by the Port of Barcelona and the City Council in 2018. The project is expected to cost €85 million ($91.9 million) with the terminal due to be operational by spring 2027.
