Norway’s Port of Bodo is set to expand its facilities as it experiences a 160 per cent increase in cruise calls, with 13 visits scheduled for 2013. The port also expects to receive 7,423 passengers during the season, marking a 164 per cent rise from 2,814 in 2012.

“We are very pleased to note that after years of hard and focused work, we are starting to see the results,” said Ingvar Mathisen, director at the Port of Bodo.
A concrete quay with 50-metre bollards will replace the current wooden Town Square quay, allowing ships of up to 50,000gt to berth in the town centre. The renovation will be complete by spring 2014.

The fairway and a turning basin will be dredged to create a minimum 10.5-metre draft at the Terminal quay, which handles the larger cruise ships. Several 150-metre bollards will also be installed. The work is expected to be completed in 2016.

P&O Cruises’ Adonia will open the port’s cruise season on 16 May and close it on 30 August, after calling four times during the summer. There will also be four turnarounds from ISM’s Quest, Compagnie du Ponant’s Le Boreal and two calls from Club Med 2.

Cruise & Maritime Voyages’ Ocean Countess, The World and Fred.Olsen Cruise Lines’ Black Watch will all make inaugural visits to the Port of Bodo in 2013.
