The Port of Buenos Aires has invested US$200 million to improve its infrastructure so it has capacity to welcome more cruise ships to Argentina’s capital city.

Managed by Terminals Rio de la Plata, a division of Dubai-based DP World group, the ongoing project will ensure that the port and Quinquela Martín terminal remain the biggest and most modern cruise facilities in South America. Currently, the 137,627-square foot building can comfortably handle up to 13,000 passengers daily.

Many of the world’s biggest international cruise lines already visit the Port of Buenos Aires during its October-April cruise season, often sailing from destinations such as Puerto Madryn, Patagonia; Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego; Brazil; Chile; Peru and Uruguay. Some of the main regular visitors include MSC Cruises, Costa Cruises, Royal Caribbean International, Norwegian Cruise Line and Crystal Cruises.

Guests can enjoy various shore excursions while in Buenos Aires, including graffiti tours, a visit to a tango salon, a full day of lessons at the city polo field, trips to the Immigrant Museum, a port building that once welcomed millions of immigrants from Europe. Visitors can also head to restaurants at the nearby Puerto Madero (the old port) and the Reserva Ecologica, which is a natural urban green space for nature hikes, jogging, cycling and bird watching.
