Denmark’s Port of Roenne has achieved its best-ever financial results, with its passenger and commercial businesses helping to grow equity and profit margins for the fifth consecutive year.
In 2017, the port generated a turnover of DK56.8 million (US$9.2 million), a rise of 9.6% from 2016.
Thomas Bendtsen, CEO of Port of Roenne, identified a rise in cars and passengers as one of the key areas of growth in 2017. This is largely due to a new ferry route between Port of Roenne and Swinoujscie in Poland. The route is operated by TT-Line.
“The new ferry route has contributed to the number of cars passing through the port, increasing by 6.1%, while the number of passengers increased by 5.1%,” said Bendtsen. “However, most of the growth is due to growth on the routes operated by the shipping company Færgen. On behalf of the whole organisation I’m very proud. We had the expectation that we would go out of 2017 with a profit of DK13.2 million. Therefore, of course, it is a pleasure to note that we grew by DK2 million more than expected.”
Port of Roenne expects to achieve good financial performance in 2018 too, particularly as it is scheduled for a 45% increase in the number of visiting cruise lines visiting. This year, cruise lines will make a total of 47 calls to Roenne, bringing around 22,374 passengers to the island of Bornholm – a rise from 26 calls and 12,441 people in 2017. Numbers are expected to rise again in 2019 when the port will be extended to allow it to accommodate larger cruise vessels up to 359 metres in length.
